Violinist Karen Gomyo gives a heartfelt account of growing up with a single mother and dividing her energies between violin, karate, and ballet until hearing a performance by Midori that transformed her life trajectory. With accounts of her legendary and demanding teacher Dorothy DeLay and finding a zone on stage as an introvert, Gomyo examines what it means to express musical artistry in the larger world and find an authentic voice.
